Held each year in early to mid-March, Alister Clark Stakes Night is a rare event staged under lights at the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. The event is held at Moonee Valley Racecourse and boasts a racecard headlined by the $200,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes, a race for three-year-old colts and geldings. Many great gallopers have taken out the feature race, including Linton (2010), Naturalism (1992), Durbridge (1991), Zabeel (1990), Vo Rogue (1987), Hydrogen (1953) and Comic Court (1950).
The night is traditionally scheduled a week prior to the running of the Group 1 William Reid Stakes, a $400,000 weight-for-age sprint at the same venue. The race is named in the honour of Alister Clark, the foundation chairman of the Moonee Valley Racing Club and master of Oaklands Hunt Club from 1901 to 1908.
