Horse Racing | Blue Diamond Prelude (C & G)

As its name suggests, the Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) is the most common lead up race to the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, the premier feature race for two-year-olds at the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. There are two versions of the race, both of which are run on CF Orr Stakes Day, held annually at Caulfield Racecourse in mid-February. This particular race is restricted to colts and geldings and is run under set weights. The event is a Group 3 over the 1100m distance, 100m shorter than the Blue Diamond Stakes.

As you would expect, a number colts and geldings have completed the Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G)/Blue Diamond Stakes double, with the most recent being Sepoy in 2011. Under the care of Peter Snowden, the chestnut followed that impressive feat up by winning the $3.5 million Golden Slipper in Sydney less than two months later. Other classy types on the honour roll include; Benetau (2010), Lonhro (2001), Flying Spur (1995) and Rancher (1982).
