Horse Racing | Manfred Stakes

The Manfred Stakes is a Group 3 race held on the Manfred Stakes Day at Sandown Racecourse. Taking place during the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, it is a race for three-year-olds at set weights plus penalties. Given it run over a distance of 1300m and offers $150,000 in prize money, it tends to attract better quality three-year-old sprinters from across the state.

Horses that contest this event tend to go on to compete in either the Group 2 Autumn Stakes or the Group 3 Boronia Stakes. Some very handy gallopers have won the Manfred stakes in recent times including; Mosheen (2012), Denman (2010), Nicconi (2009), Haradasun (2007), Groucho (1987) and Getting Closer (1982). Denman won the Manfred Stakes/Autumn Stakes double in 2010.
