Horse Racing | Mannerism Stakes

The Mannerism Stakes is a Group 3 race for mares which takes place each year on Blue Diamond Stakes Day in late February. The race is run over 1400m at Caulfield Racecourse, under set weight and penalty conditions. This tends to favour the better performed mares in a race which is often hard to sort out. Females that compete in the Mannerism Stakes tend to go on to races such as the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes at Flemington or the Group 3 Matron Stakes held on Australian Cup Day.

In 2014, the Pat Hyland trained mare Bonaria took out the Mannerism Stakes before going on to take out the Matron Stakes a fortnight later. The Mannerism was first held in 1988 as a Listed Race, but was elevated to a Group 3 five years later. Handy winners of this event include Red flair (2011), Seachange (2007), Galapagos Girl (2003) and Memphis Blue (1990).
