Horse Racing | Victoria Handicap

The Victoria Handicap is run on Easter Saturday, the final day of the Melbourne Autumn Carnival alongside another Group 3, the Easter Cup (2000m). It is contested over 1400m at Caulfield and is an Open Handicap, with stakes of $150,000. It usually attracts capacity fields of above average gallopers, rather than the elite sprinters.

The race had its origins in 1949 when taken out be Ungar. At that stage it was a Principal Race, before the 1979 edition was run as a Listed Race. It gained Group 3 status in 1980.
