Horse Racing | Blazer Stakes

More commonly known as the Rose of Kingston Stakes, the Blazer Stakes is a Group 2 thoroughbred horse race that features on one of the Melbourne Spring Carnival's biggest racing days, Turnbull Stakes Day. The event is run over the 1400m track at Flemington Racecourse and is restricted to Mares of all ages under set weight and penalty conditions. The race is usually won by mares that have a well-balanced mix of endurance and a good turn of foot.

Gallopers that run well in the event will usually go on to contest bigger spring races such as the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes on Caulfield Cup Day or the Group 1 Myer Classic on Victoria Derby Day. In 1997, the event was upgraded to Group 3 status before being becoming a Group 2 in 2004. It has had a number of name changes over the years and has been won by some very good females – Mosheen (2012), Divine Madonna (2006), Will Fly (1997) and Excited Angel (1993).
