Horse Racing | Northwood Plume Stakes

The Northwood Plume Stakes is a Group 3 race for mares held on Caulfield Guineas Day. It is a set weights plus penalties race over 1200m for mares only. This is a relatively new addition to the carnival roster, only dating back to 2005. While it may not be a premier race as such, it definitely has its place on the day, and offers a prize pool of $150,000.

The Northwood Plume was upgraded to a Group 3 event in the 2013/14 season. First won by Crimson Reign in 2005, Avenue saluted in 2010, while in 2013 Kerrin McEvoy steered home Aerobatics for Darley, which of course now comes under the Godolphin racing banner. Northwood Plume was a champion filly/mare trained by Lee Freedman in the mid-1990s. She had 18 starts for nine wins and three minors.
