Formerly known as the JJ Liston Stakes Day, P B Lawrence Stakes Day is one of Victoria’s leading thoroughbred horse racing events, which falls outside the official Melbourne Spring Carnival. Held annually in mid-August, the day is the first major event in the spring run at the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne.
The card includes a couple of Group 3 races, the Quezette Stakes and Vain Stakes, while the Group 2 P B Lawrence Stakes headlines the program. Most of the races featured are run between 1100m-1400m, a distance which traditionally attracts classy sprinters. The day, and feature race itself, are named in the honour of Peter B. Lawrence, who spent 12 years as Chairman of the Melbourne Racing Club.
