At the business end of an NHL season, 16 teams participate in the playoffs for a chance to lift the prestigious Stanley Cup. The playoff series is an elimination tournament consisting of four rounds of best-of-seven series. Eight teams, the top three teams from each division and two wildcard entries, from each conference qualify for the playoffs, with the final round of the playoffs being dubbed the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Montreal Canadians have won the most Stanley Cups out of any of the teams, lifting the trophy 19 times. The St. Louis Blues and the Vancouver Canucks have an unwanted record of the most Stanley Cup appearances without a victory. Both have made it through to the decider three times with no joy.
