Horse Racing | Bredder Classic

The Breeders Classic is a Group 2 race held during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. Held at the Rosehill Racecourse in Western Sydney, it covers a distance of 1200m and is a race for mares under set weights plus penalties conditions. Given the short distance of the race, it favours the sprinters rather than the stayers. The $175,000 race has been won by many of Australia’s champion mares in the past, with Staging successful in 2000, Private Steer in 2004, Winning Belle in 2005, Gallant Tess in 2008, Hot Danish in 2009 and Gai Waterhouse’s More Joyous in 2011.

It is the first group race of the year for females in the metropolitan area and normally attracts classy staying types returning from spells and talented sprinters looking for an early carnival kill. It was first held in 1996 when won by Kiwi visitor Destruct. Steps In Time missed three consecutive victories in 2014 when edged out by Catkins on the line.
