Horse Racing | Dark Jewel Classic

Run on the second day of the Scone Cup Carnival, the Dark Jewel Classic is a quality race for fillies and mares. The event is held at Scone Racecourse, a country horse club in northern New South Wales. Scone is widely regarded as the horse capital of Australia with a long history in the industry. The Dark Jewel Classic is one of the richest country races with a prize pool of $200,000 up for grabs. Horses which ‘joust for the Jewel’ might use the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown as a lead-up.

Aerobatics won the Hawkesbury Crown in 2014 before finishing in a close second to Gai Waterhouse’s Seaside in the Dark Jewel Classic. With black type on offer and handy stakes, this race is becoming more and more popular with owners and trainers. The trend means top jockeys are also making the trip to Scone.
