The Frank Packer Plate is a Group 3 race for three-year-olds at set weights and penalties. Held at the famous Royal Randwick Racecourse, it is part of All Aged Stakes Day and is one of the final Group 3 races of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. It is featured alongside some of the more prominent Group races of the carnival, including the Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes and the Group 1 All Aged Stakes. The race is over a distance of 2000m and offers prize money of $175,000. The race is named after Sir Douglas Frank Hewson Packer (1906 – 1974), the former chairman of the Australian Jockey Club.
First run as a Group 2 back in 1980, the Frank Packer Place dropped back to Group 3 in 1991. This race has become pivotal for three-year-olds that are not up to the class or struggle with the distance of the Australian Derby and the Australian Oaks. It has been won by a number of promising horses which go on to bigger and better things including; Dalmacia (1982), Juggler (1995), Might And Power (1997), Freemason (2000), Clangalang (2003) and Shootoff (2011).
