Horse Racing | Gosford Gold Cup

The Gosford Gold Cup is an Open Quality Handicap over 2100m run annually at the Gosford Racecourse on the NSW Central Coast. The event was first held in 1961 when won by Our Add. It was originally a Principal Race over 10 furlongs and changed to 2100m when Australia went metric in 1973. It was elevated to a Listed Race in 1980, and for two decades (1986-2006), it enjoyed Group 3 status, before again being down-graded.

This is one of the premier events for the Gosford Race Club, which is now promoting its track and facilities as The Entertainment Grounds. The Gosford Gold Cup is often targeted by city trainers for horses just below top shelf or to test promising stayers on the rise.
