Horse Racing | Hobartville Stakes

The Hobartville Stakes is a Group 2 horse race which headlines one of the premier events at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, Hobartville Stakes Day. The race is run over 1400m at Rosehill Racecourse and is restricted to three-year-olds. Run under set weight conditions, the Hobartville Stakes usually attracts classy gallopers which tend to use the event as a lead up to bigger races, such as the Group 3 Phar Lap Stakes or the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.

Since its inauguration in 1925, the event was only recognised as a Principal Race before its elevation to Group 2 in 1979. Great horses that have won the event include John Hawkes’ stallion Lonhro, the Bart Cummings trained gelding Shaftesbury Avenue and more recently Gai Waterhouse’s colt Pierro.
