Held annually in late February at the prestigious Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, Hobartville Stakes Day is one of the feature horse racing meetings during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The event was inaugurated in 1925 and makes for a great day of racing both on and off the track. There are several Group 2 races run on the day, including the Silver Slipper Stakes, the Millie Fox Stakes and the headline - the Hobartville Stakes. With this big day so early in the carnival, many trainers and owners utilise a number of the events to either test their promising gallopers for future Group 1s later in the autumn or even to qualify them for the big races ahead.
Hobartville Stakes Day is all about the rising young stars of the turf, as two-year-olds and three-year-olds take centre stage. Fillies and mares also have a chance to shine in the time-honoured Millie Fox Stakes. This meeting has unearthed or even further enhanced the reputation of many quality horses over the years.
