Horse Racing | James HB Carr Stakes

The JHB Carr Stakes is a Group 3 race that takes place during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. It is one of a few handy Group 3 races held on All Aged Stakes Day, including the Frank Packer Plate, the JRA Plate and the Hall Mark Stakes. The Carr Stakes is a race for three-year-old fillies and at set weights plus penalties. Held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse, it is run over a distance of 1400m and offers prize money of $150,000. Quality fillies tend to line up in the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes before contesting this event.

In 2011, Chris Waller’s Red Tracer won the Bell Stakes/Carr Stakes double. Formerly a Listed race, the JHB Carr Stakes was elevated to Group 3 in the 2013/14 season. Other classy winners of this event include Flitter (1993) and Private Steer (2003).
