The Keith F Nolan Classic is one of the premier horse races of the year for the New South Wales country town of Kembla Grange. The race is for fillies aged three-years-old and is run at the Kembla Grange Racecourse over 1600m. The event is named in honour of Keith Nolan, the founding Chairman of the Illawarra Turf Club. Nolan was a pivotal figure in the New South Wales racing industry and was instrumental in saving the country town’s racecourse, and establishing it as one of the state’s premier provincial tracks.
Horses that compete in the race tend to go on to contest the Group 1 Storm Queen Stakes on Golden Slipper Stakes Day. The event started off as a Listed Race in 2003 and gained Group 3 status in 2010. In 2009, Allez Wonder won the Keith Nolan before further success in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap in the spring. In 2011, VRC Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse was successful in this event, while other notable winners include; Appearance (2012) and Hot Danish (2007).
