The Liverpool City Cup is a Group 3 race featured during the Sydney Autumn Carnival. Held on Chipping Norton Stakes Day, it is a 1300m race contested under Quality Handicap conditions. The race favours sprinters with stamina to finish well, or those which just can’t run a strong 1400m. Over the years it has gone through many changes, from being a Principal Race in 1970 to becoming a Group 3 in 1979, and from being a 2400m staying event to a 1300m sprint.
The winner of this event is exempt from ballot and penalty for the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap. Notable winners of this event include; the promising Terravista (2014), Danleigh (2008), Bomber Bill (2002), Pharoah (1993) and Toltrice (1974).
