Horse Racing | Neville Sellwood Stakes

Named in honour of the great jockey who rode Golden Slipper Stakes champions Tulloch and Todman, the Neville Sellwood Stakes is a quality Group 3 race for horses three-years and older run at set weights plus penalties. Staged at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse annually in late March, the event tends to attract potential stayers which have shown promise over middle distances.

It’s not the best 2000m race around and normally attracts gallopers which are stepping up from a mile to test their endurance, or handy stayers looking for a decent hit out on the way to longer distance races deeper in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The event was a Listed Race until elevated to Group 3 status in 2011. It is a race which is appealing to owners and trainers of second tier stayers who tend to struggle against elite opposition.
