Newcastle Newmarket Handicap Day is the biggest race day in Newcastle during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. A midweek event, it is the sole meeting in New South Wales that day. Headlined by the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap, it attracts racing enthusiasts from across the state to see some handy competitors put their skills to the test.
Staged by the Newcastle Jockey Club, the Newmarket is contested at the pristine Broadmeadow Racecourse, where the flat turf track with a circumference of 2000m and a straight of 415m offer all runners an even chance of victory. Given it is a couple of hours north of Sydney, it is a nice day out if you can get off work and leave the hustle and bustle of the big smoke behind.
