Nolan Classic Day is one of the great country racing events of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The racecard on the day may not compete with other major metropolitan events, but it’s a great day out for locals in the Illawarra region. The event is held annually in March at the Kembla Grange Racecourse, a country town in southern New South Wales, and is hosted by the Illawarra Turf Club.
The event, along with the headlining event of the racecard, is named in honour of Keith F. Nolan, the founding Chairman of the Illawarra Turf Club. Mr Nolan was instrumental in saving the Kembla Grange Racecourse, and establishing it as one of the premier provincial race tracks in New South Wales.
