Horse Racing | Silver Slipper Stakes

The Silver Slipper Stakes is a Group 2 horse race which is one of the main features on Hobartville Stakes Day – an event during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. As the name suggests, it is a common lead up race to the prestigious Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes – a race which boasts a purse of over $3.5 million. For that reason, this race tends to attract more interest on the day than the headline Hobartville Stakes.

It gives owners, trainers and jockeys an indication of how their horse will go later down the track. Run over 1100m at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse, the Silver Slipper Stakes attracts an array of young, talented sprinters with big futures. In 2014, the John Hawkes trained filly Mossfun completed an impressive double, winning the Silver Slipper in February, before claiming the Golden Slipper in April.
