Horse Racing | Storm Queen Stakes

The Storm Queens Stakes, also known as the Vinery Stud Stakes, is a Group 1 horse race that features on BMW Stakes Day, one of the leading events at the Sydney Autumn Carnival. The race is restricted to three-year-old fillies and is run under set weight conditions. With an impressive prize pool of $500,000 for the taking, the race attracts the best middle distance gallopers in the country. The event is important as it is the first 2000m race specifically for fillies, and provides the perfect lead up race to the Group 1 $1 million ATC Australian Oaks.

In 1997, Danendri took out the Storm Queen Stakes before going to Randwick a fortnight later to take out the ATC Australian Oaks. The honour roll for this event includes; Mosheen (2012), Miss Finland (2007), Serenade Rose (2006), Hollow Bullet (2005), Special Harmony (2004), Slight Chance (1993), Research (1989) and Centaurea (1985).
