Horse Racing | Craven Plate

The Craven Plate is a Group 3 weight-for-age race that covers a distance of 2000m and offers $125,000 in prize money. Held on Epsom Handicap Day during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival, the Craven Plate is one of a handful of Group races on the card which also includes the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, the Group 1 Flight Stakes and the Group 2 Premiere Stakes. It is one of the oldest races in Australia, dating back to 1867.

Originally a Principal Race, it was granted Listed status in 1984 before becoming a Group 3 in 1993. This race has been won by many great horses over the years, including Flight, Chatham and hall of famer Phar Lap. Others on the honour list include; Mummify (2005), Tie The Knot (1999), Hayai (1984/85), Ming Dynasty (1978), Dalrello (1975) and Tulloch (1960).
