OMEI SWORD

Chris Waller had five fillies in the original nominations for the race, with Omei Sword one of his brighter hopes. With a last start second in the Golden Rose behind Astern, the High Chaparral filly should appreciate the extra distance out to one mile and also the return to fillies only company. Resuming for her 3YO season in the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m, she returned a dominant performance, posting a 3.3 length victory. Second-up in the G1 Golden Rose she had the measure of all bar the winner, with 3rd placegetter Impending having since won the G2 Stan Fox Stakes, defeating the 4th placed Divine Prophet and 5th placed Good Standing in the Rosehill 1500m colts & geldings feature. The race will also be key indicator to where Omei Sword races next as she is nominated in the Thousand Guineas, the Cox Plate and the VRC Oaks.

YANKEE ROSE

The David Vandyke trained filly looked to have the racing world at her hooves after a slashing second in the Golden Slipper was followed with an impressive win in the G1 Sires Produce Stakes at Randwick back in April. Scratched on the eve of the Champagne Stakes, the filly was then sent for a spell. After a series of indifferent jump-outs and a trial that was far from her best, she was entered into the Golden Rose first-up and after opening at $10 in the final field market with UBET, the money continued to flow and after touching $5 she jumped at $5.25. Having been ridden off the pace at each of her 4 previous starts, she was sent to the front by Zac Purton and could not reple the challengers to finish 6th, beaten 3.5 lengths. SKYLIGHT GLOW

Trained by James Cummings, the filly has placed in both her runs since resuming for her 3YO season. Closing out her 2YO term with successive wins, the first of those was over Invincibella who has since won a 3YO race and then placed second in the Listed Reg Allen at Rosehill. Resuming in the G3 Ming Dynasty over 1400m at Randwick on a heavy 9, she was in front with 200m left to run before being overpowered by the colt Swear and High Mist who has since been an impressive mid-week winner. Second-up in the G2 Tea Rose the Northern Meteor filly again raced on the pace and nearly had the race in the bag until Foxplay who had been looking for clear galloping room found the gaps and the hit the line to grab the win, beating Skylight Glow by a long neck.
