FURIOUS STAKES QUICK FACTS

First held in 1986, the Furious Stakes is a race restricted to 3 Year Old Fillies that was originally held at 1400m. In 2000 it was held at 1350m when the race was conducted at Rosehill and then held at 1400m until 2012. In 2013 the race was reduced to the current distance of 1200m and is held under the conditions of set weights.

The inaugural running was at Listed status and then in 1995 the race was elevated to Group 3 level. In 2005 the race was further upgraded to the current Group 2 status. In 2016 the race will be held at Randwick with both Rosehill and Warwick Farm having held the race previously. Fillies that have been successful in this race have good records in the G2 Tea Rose Stakes and the G1 Flight Stakes.

Total prizemoney on offer in 2016 will be $175,000 with the winner to receive $105,000. The 2015 winner was the Gai Waterhouse trained Speak Fondly, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy. Other winners throughout the history of the race include Winx, Dear Demi, Streama, Samantha Miss, Vicotry Vein and Sunline.

I AM A STAR

The Shane Nichols trained filly is quickly developing a reputation as a smart sprinting filly and lines up here after three successive wins. Breaking her maiden status in a 2YO fillies race under set weights and penalties she was able to record a 1.5 length victory, including a sizzling closing 600m sectional of 32.75. That warranted a trip to Adelaide where she took on the 1200m National Stakes at Group 3 level and returned a dominant performance, winning by 3 lengths after being ridden on the pace. Resuming after a short spell the filly flashed home from near last at the 400m to win the G3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield defeating Leotie who franked the form with a dominant win last week at Caulfield. This will be her first attempt at the right-handed going with Steven King to keep the ride following riding her at each of her three wins.

HONESTY PREVAILS

The Rick Worthington trained filly resumes her career following her three start two year old season that netted one win. Making her debut in the G3 Widden Stud Stakes at Rosehill in January she settled close to the speed on the rail. Angling for an opening in the straight she was able to push clear and at 200m loomed up to take the front and forge away to a 2 length victory. Starting favourite in the G2 Reisling she was able to finish 4th and at her final run to round out her season was under 3 lengths from Capitalist to finish 5th in the Golden Slipper. She has trialled twice to prepare for her return with the first trial over 800m and the second over 1175m both at Warwick Farm. She was not asked for much in the first trial and was ridden out in the second and both... read more The Rick Worthington trained filly resumes her career following her three start two year old season that netted one win. MY COUNTRY

A three time winner during her 2YO season, the Snowden trained filly resumes off the back of a Rosehill trial over 900m where she was ridden by Blake Shinn and was not asked for much in finishing 3rd where she beat home Omei Sword who has since won the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at her first run back. Opening her career in a 2YO set weights maiden at Gosford she was a one length winner and followed that with a 2nd behind the colt Tessera at her second start with Tessera going on to win the G3 Canonbury Stakes at his next start. Given a break after that run My Country resumed in a 1000m benchmark 64 against older horses and was able to secure the win. That prompted a trip north where she was successful in the Listed Lancaster Stakes on Stradbroke Day at what was the last... read more A three time winner during her 2YO season, the Snowden trained filly resumes off the back of a Rosehill trial over 900m where she was ridden by Blake Shinn and was not asked for much in finishing 3rd where she beat home Omei Sword who has since won the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at her first run back. BACARELLA

From three career starts, Bacarella has one win and one second placing to her name. Opening her career in a 2YO fillies maiden at Rosehill in February she missed the jump and was at the tail field throughout behind Omei Sword. Sent straight for a break she resumed in June at Canterbury on a soft 7 over 1100m in a set weights event for fillies and this time jumped a bit slowly again but was quickly sent forward to take up the running from gate 11. Leading into the straight she was able to maintain the advantage and score a one length victory. Kept fresh her next start was in the G2 Silver Shadow over 1200m at Randwick she started from the outside barrier and was never closer than three wide. Fighting on well in the straight she could not match the sprint of Omei Sword but held the rest... read more From three career starts, Bacarella has one win and one second placing to her name.
