HEAVENS ABOVE

In sixteen start career, Heavens Above has missed a placing just three times with her record reading 16:4-5-4. Two of the three misses came in Group 1 company in the Vinery Stud Stakes behind Fenway and the Queensland Oaks behind Winx, the third when resuming this preparation in the G3 Toy Quality and carrying the top-weight of 59kg when finishing 4th behind Pearls. Second-up this campaign in the G3 Sheraco Stakes and back to 56kg under the set weights and penalties scale, she proved too strong in scoring a neck victory. The Tim Martin trained filly was consistent in the Autumn with a win in the G3 Aspiration Stakes followed by neck 2nd in the G3 Epona Stakes behind Vergara. The final run of her campaign was in the G1 Queen Of The Turf when 2nd to Azkadellia with some of the beaten mares including Suavito, Badawiya and Miss Rose... read more In sixteen start career, Heavens Above has missed a placing just three times with her record reading 16:4-5-4. FIRST SEAL

Not many horses can claim a win over Winx on their form-lines, yet First Seal can claim three victories over the wonder mare. The three races where First Seal has defeated Winx are the G2 Tea Rose Stakes, the G1 Flight Stakes and the G2 Surround Stakes. Obviously Winx has gone on to stamp herself as a star of the turf, while the John Thompson trained First Seal has battled issues along the way but has still managed to build a very tidy record of 5 wins and 6 seconds from 15 starts. The last 2 starts of her Autumn were behind Winx in the G1 George Ryder and the Doncaster Mile. The 5YO mare resumes here in the Golden Pendant off the back of two trials. TYCOON TARA

The Snowden trained mare Tycoon Tara has come back in great order and should appreciate racing in mares only company following her last start in the G2 Theo Marks Stakes. Finishing 4th behind Mackintosh, the 6YO was less than a length from the winner, fighting on strongly all the way down the straight at what was her first run at Rosehill. Her Spring campaign started in the G2 Missile Stakes over 1200m where she was able to lead the small field and hang on for a half-length victory. Second-up she went back to fillies and mares company in the G3 Show County Quality she was weighted on the minimum of 54kg and once again raced close to the speed holding off the challengers in scoring a 1.3 length victory. AMMIRATA

The Joe Pride trained Ammirata will be first-up in the Golden Pendant and brings a very handy record of three wins from four first-up starts. Back in January when racing as a 4YO, the mare was successful in the G3 Belle Of The Turf Stakes at Gosford over 1600m, carrying 57kg under the handicap conditions. Given a break after that win she was then a first-up winner over 1200m at Randwick when carrying 59.5kg in a benchmark 83 handicap. The last 2 runs of her winter campaign both returned minor placings with a 2nd in a benchmark 85 over 1500m at Rosehill when carrying 60.5kg and then a 3rd in a 1600m quality handicap. The 5YO mare has trialled twice to tune up for her return to racing, the 2nd of those a handy effort behind Dothraki and Winx over 1000m at Warwick Farm. GOLDEN ROSE INFORMATION

GOLDEN ROSE INFORMATION

Held annually in late September, the Golden Pendant is a Group 3 race for fillies and mares. Originally known as the Research Stakes, the event has a prize pool of $300,000 – making it one of the richest Group 3 races at the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The event is run over the 1400m distance at Rosehill Racecourse and is one of the feature events on Stan Fox Stakes Day. History shows that winners of this race tend to go on to bigger and better things.

Arabian Gold, a promising mare from the David Vandyke stable, finished runner-up in the $1 million Group 1 ATC Australian Oaks in 2014 before going on to win this event. The race was originally run over the 1200m journey, before being extended to its current 1400m distance in 2012. The Golden Pendant honour roll includes; More Joyous (2012), Hot Danish (2009) and Spinning Hill (2000).
