SAN DOMENICO STAKES PICKS

CAPITALIST

After listed to resume in last week’s Missile Stakes, the Snowden trained colt will line up for his return carrying 60kg having been scratched owing to the track conditions. Trialling twice to prepare for his return, the first trial produced a run that would have rival trainers taking notice. Settling 3rd Kerrin McEvoy held him up and once given his cues sprinted sharply and quickly opened up a margin on his rivals. The 2nd trial he was deep throughout and hitting the straight paired off with Winx half-brother El Divino to break-away from the pack. Never fully tested, Capitalist had a neck to spare on the line. The 3YO had a near perfect season to start his career, winning four of his five starts and finishing 2nd in the other. The season highlight was undeniably his win in the Golden Slipper and this week will be the perfect launching point... read more After listed to resume in last week’s Missile Stakes, the Snowden trained colt will line up for his return carrying 60kg having been scratched owing to the track conditions. STAR TURN

Put away after the Golden Slipper when running 6th behind Capitalist, the chestnut colt trained by Team Hawkes has been to the trials twice to prepare for his return. The first trial was a 5 horse field on the Warwick Farm synthetic surface and he was a comfortable all the way winner. The second trial was at Rosehill where the blinkers were applied with the trial held on a soft 6 over 900m. Tommy Berry was happy to settle just back from the speed and angled to the outside as they straightened. Star Turn sprinted sharply the closing 200m and quickly assumed control and was able to be eased down posting a 1 length victory. His 2YO season realised one win and two minors from five attempts. Successful in the early season Pierro Plate, he was 2nd in a Blue Diamond Prelude behind Flying Artie and 5th in the Blue... read more Put away after the Golden Slipper when running 6th behind Capitalist, the chestnut colt trained by Team Hawkes has been to the trials twice to prepare for his return. SAN DOMENICO STAKES HISTORICAL INFORMATION

SAN DOMENICO STAKES HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Run early on in the Sydney Spring Carnival in mid-August on the San Domenico Stakes Day, the San Domenico Stakes is the second major event of the season. The Group 3 contest is for three-year-old gallopers and is run under set weight and penalty conditions at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse. The 1100m event tends to attract horses that are returning to the track after spelling and may use the race as a lead up for bigger contests later in the spring. Gallopers that compete in the San Domenico Stakes are known to go on to contest similar Group 3’s such as the Roman Consul Stakes, Silver Shadow Stakes and Up and Coming Stakes.

Snitzerland claimed the event back in 2012 before going on to claim a couple of Group 2’s later in the spring. A number of highly credentialed horses have won this event in the past including; Gold Edition (2006), Regimental Gal (2003), Testa Rossa (1999), General Nediym (1997), Tierce (1991) and Sir Dapper (1983).
