Horse Racing | Sheraco Stakes

A Group 2, the Sheraco Stakes is the premier sprint for fillies and mares on Golden Rose Stakes Day. Held annually in mid-September during the Sydney Spring Carnival, the event is run over the short 1100m distance at Sydney’s iconic Rosehill Racecourse. Named in honour of the 1982 Australian Oaks winning filly Sheraco, this event consistently groups together some of the quickest female gallopers from around Australia. The Sheraco Stakes winners’ list boasts a number of quality sprinters, including champion mare More Joyous.

The talented Gai Waterhouse trained galloper won in 2010 before coming back again in 2012 to claim the race for the second time, a feat only she has achieved. Prior to 2000, the race was an unlisted Quality Handicap, before being upgraded to a Listed Race. It gained Group 3 status in 2013.
