IMPENDING

The O’Shea trained Impending has finished 3rd at his two starts this campaign, with both of those runs when finishing behind his stable-mate, the talented Astern. First up in the Run To The Rose and carrying 56kg under the set weights and penalties scale he was looking for racing room at the 200m and right as he was looking to accelerate he was crowded for room that cost him momentum. When he got going again, he picked up some ground in a good effort. Second-up in the G1 Golden Rose he was angling off heels to find open space in the centre of the pack as Astern had already hit the front and was able to keep ahead of all others except for the fast-finishing Omei Sword. DIVINE PROPHET

Starting from barrier 10 in the Golden Rose when second-up, Tommy Berry took the colt across to the rails early and on settling was in the last 3 runners as Yankee Rose was setting the tempo at the front. Still near last as the field swung for home Berry was looking for gaps before deciding to angle across to find the outside running. At the 250m when Astern shot away, he quickly put about a 4 length margin on Divine Prophet who then was slightly bumped by Derryn. Knuckling down he was able to start finding the line and finished 4th, beaten just under 3 lengths. First-up the Team Hawkes trained colt was able to score a narrow victory in the G3 UP and Coming Stakes after starting from the widest gate in the nine horse field.

STAN FOX STAKES INFORMATION

STAN FOX STAKES INFORMATION

Headlining Stan Fox Stakes Day, the Stan Fox Stakes is a Group 2 horse race for three-year-old gallopers. The event is held annually in September at Sydney’s Rosehill Racecourse during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and is run over the 1500m track under set weight conditions. The race tends to attract classier three-year-olds and has been won by a number of greats such as Lonhro (2001), General Nediym (1997) and Octagonal (1995). Horses that compete in the Group 1 Golden Rose or Group 3 Spring Stakes in previous weeks tend to go on to contest the $300,000 race, with the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes a possible target afterwards.

The race is named the honour of Stan Fox, a New South Wales industrialist and racehorse owner-breeder who passed away in 1974. The event has been upgraded several times from a Principal, Listed and Group 3 Race, before gaining its current Group 2 status in 1996. It has previously been contested at Randwick and Warwick Farm, and between 1978 and 2010 was run over 1400m.
