SOUTHERN LEGEND

The Les Bridge trained 4YO will face his sternest test to date, stepping in to Group race company for the first time. That has not deterred his supporters with the gelding opening as the $2.90 favourite with UBET and has met with solid support to firmly hold his position at the top of the boards. From six career starts he has been successful four times with the only two misses coming in his 2YO season. His first 2 starts were behind Hellbent who has since won another 3 races including the Inglis Dash and at his 2nd start he was beaten in a 2YO maiden by Japonisme who has since won three times at Group level, including the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes. Southern Legend resumed in his 4YO season with a win over 1000m in a benchmark 85 handicap at Randwick when carrying 60kg and starting from the outside gate... read more The Les Bridge trained 4YO will face his sternest test to date, stepping in to Group race company for the first time. TYCOON TARA

6YO mare Tycoon Tara has started her season in impeccable fashion, recording successive wins in at Group 2 and then Group 3 level. Following two eye-catching trials she resumed in the Group 2 Missile Stakes over 1200m and was able to lead the small field and held on for a half-length win. Second-up in the Group 3 Show County Quality, she was weighted on the minimum of 54kg and once again raced close to the speed and was able to hold off the challengers in scoring a 1.3 length victory. This will be the first time the mare has raced at Rosehill, however from four attempts at 1300m, she is a three time winner. The Snowden trained mare has seen her rating jump from 95 on entering the Missile Stakes, to sit at 106 coming in to this race.

COUNTERATTACK

Jockey Hugh Bowman has developed a successful partnership with top trainer Chris Waller and the pair will reunite here with Bowman to ride Counterattack. The 4YO is one horse from the Waller stable that Bowman has failed to win on, despite riding the entire three times in his career. Those three rides were all in the 2YO season where Counterattack landed one of his four career victories. During the Autumn he finished 5th behind Southern Legend in the Listed Darby Munro and then finished a half-head from Japonisme in the G2 Arrowfield Stud Stakes. Given a two race Queensland Winter campaign he was successful in the G3 Fred Best over 1350m at Doomben and rounded out his 3YO term with a mid-field finish in the G1 Stradbroke when carrying 52.5kg and ridden by ‘the magic man’ Joao Moreira. He resumes with one win at the distance and a first-up record... read more Jockey Hugh Bowman has developed a successful partnership with top trainer Chris Waller and the pair will reunite here with Bowman to ride Counterattack. VASHKA

Vashka resumed from a long break in the G3 Show County Quality over 1200m carrying 58.5kg. Pushing across early to lead, James McDonald rated the horse well but faded off in the home straight to be beaten 7.5 lengths. At a subsequent stewards questioning, McDonald reported the gelding dipped a number of times near the 600m and did not feel comfortable on the track with trainer John O’Shea confirming he has been unhappy with his previous performances at Randwick. He gets to Rosehill for the Theo Marks where he has recorded five wins from six attempts and is a three time winner over the Rosehill 1300m trip. Vashka opened on the 6th line of the UBET market in a race that he competed in last year when beaten just over 3 lengths by Winx. After that run he went on to win his next 2 starts in the G2 Shannon... read more Vashka resumed from a long break in the G3 Show County Quality over 1200m carrying 58.5kg.
